Opening Weekend on the Lake 

Lake Tahoe | May 21 - 25

Memorial Day weekend 2026 in the Reno–Tahoe area will feature major outdoor and music events including the Reno River Festival, the Drifters Music Festival, Midtown arts events, and numerous Tahoe summer kickoff celebrations with live music, markets, lake activities, and family entertainment. Expect busy crowds throughout Reno, Truckee, and Lake Tahoe as beaches, trails, casinos, and outdoor recreation venues launch the summer season with concerts, festivals, and special events. Steam Train Opening

Virginia City | May 23

The Virginia and Truckee Railroad’s famous Comstock Route Diesel Train begins May 23 for Memorial Day Weekend, offering a narrated 35-minute scenic round trip between Virginia City and Gold Hill with views of historic mining country and possible wild horses. Trains run daily seven times a day and passengers on all but the final 4 PM departure can explore Gold Hill and return later the same day. Learn more here!
