November 5, 2026
Where does a free weekday afternoon on the East Shore go once the summer places have closed? Round Hill Pines Resort has put away its Beach Bums dining, the Rum Bar and its marina rentals, and its own site says it reopens May 1, 2027. The Forest Service's seasonal closure schedule closes Nevada Beach and its campground and shuts Zephyr Cove Stables for the winter. That same list names Zephyr Cove Resort and Campground as open all year.
So most of the off-season happens in two places. One is the resort's dock and restaurant. The other is the Douglas County community calendar at Kahle Community Center. The timing matters too. The busiest window is the rest of November, because daily boat service is only on the schedule through November 30. After that, the season comes down to a few dated events, and one Saturday in December holds two of them.
The Zephyr Cove Resort cruise calendar lists a 12 p.m. Daytime Scenic Cruise every day from November 1 through November 30, 2026. A 5 p.m. Evening Dinner Cruise runs on Fridays and Saturdays. December's posted schedule doesn't show daily sailings yet. It shows dated events.
The scenic cruise takes two and a quarter hours and leaves at noon. Tickets are $109 for adults 12 and up and $60 for children 3 to 11. Children under 3 ride free. The noon departure fits a short November day well. You're back at the dock by mid-afternoon with daylight left over.
The weekend dinner cruise has two price tiers. Regular seating is $160 per adult and $80 per child. Window seating is $180 per adult and $95 per child, and children under 3 ride free. November is when the 5 p.m. boarding time works best. By then, sunset comes during dinner, so a window seat is worth the extra $20.
After the daily schedule ends, the resort's upcoming events page lists the holiday sailings still ahead. The daily cruise prices are the baseline to compare them against.
| Sailing | Date and time | Adult | Child |
|---|---|---|---|
| Daytime Scenic Cruise | Daily at noon through Nov 30 | $109 | $60 |
| Evening Dinner Cruise, regular seating | Fridays and Saturdays, 5 p.m. | $160 | $80 |
| Thanksgiving Day Cruise | Thursday, Nov 26, 4–7 p.m. | $175 | $85 |
| Santa Cruise | Saturday, Dec 19, noon–2:15 p.m. | $99 | $55 |
| New Year's Eve Cruise | Thursday, Dec 31, 6:30–9:30 p.m. | Not yet posted | Not yet posted |
The Thanksgiving Day Cruise costs $15 more per adult than a regular-seat dinner cruise and runs three hours. The posted menu is a full holiday dinner. It starts with tomato-mozzarella and spring-mix salads. Then come rolls, cranberry sauce, stuffing and garlic mashed potatoes, with turkey breast, salmon and maple-bourbon ham as the mains. Dessert is pumpkin pie, cookies and brownie bars. If your household would rather not cook this year, or has guests from out of town on Thanksgiving, that's a full dinner on the lake for $175 a person.
The Santa Cruise is the only sailing on the calendar that costs less than the daily noon boat. It's $99 per adult, $10 less than the scenic cruise, and $55 per child. The Santa Cruise event page lists Santa, complimentary hot cocoa and candy canes, holiday activities, and a chance for kids to write letters to Santa. No full meal menu is posted for it, so plan lunch around it.
The second venue is Kahle Community Center. On Saturday, December 19, Kahle and the Tahoe Douglas Fire Department are hosting Breakfast with Santa from 8 to 11 a.m. Santa visits run from 8:30 to 10:30. Santa's last visit at Kahle ends at 10:30, and the Santa Cruise leaves Zephyr Cove at noon. That leaves 90 minutes to get from breakfast to the dock.
For a family with young kids, that means one Saturday covers both of the East Shore's Santa events. Here's how the day lines up:
Both events are on the same date, so if you want both, plan for both. Book cruise seats in advance.
Kahle has an earlier event too. The Holiday Market & Craft Fair is on Saturday, November 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with local vendors, food, a Kid Zone and holiday activities. It falls in the middle of the daily-cruise window, so you could spend the morning at the fair and still catch the noon boat on a different day that week.
The cruise schedule gets the attention, but a few businesses in Zephyr Cove are open whatever the date.
Zephyr Cove Restaurant says on its page that it's open year-round. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The Friday and Saturday dinner cruise boards at 5 p.m., so the restaurant's extra weekend hours give you somewhere to go before or after the boat.
Adventure Coffee Company is at 605 Highway 50, in the space Toast used to occupy. KOLO reported its opening in May 2026. At the time, it planned to open daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. to start, with a grand opening in June. Those were its opening-month hours, so check the current schedule before you count on an early coffee.
Zephyr Cove's off-season also depends on Highway 50, the road that connects it to everything else. NDOT's U.S. 50 Tahoe East Shore Resurfacing page calls 2026 the project's second and final season, which included paving more than seven more miles and finishing the roadside work. Paving is done. Crews are still using traffic control while they finish signs, striping, barrier-rail painting and staging cleanup, and NDOT expects minimal delays for the rest of the project. For trips north toward Cave Rock and Spooner Summit this month, plan on a freshly paved road with the odd work crew still on the shoulder.
Just up that road, Cave Rock is still a working launch in winter. Nevada State Parks lists the park as open sunrise to sunset. The winter boat-launch season runs September 5 through May 24, with launch hours from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Day use costs $10 for a vehicle with Nevada plates and $15 for one from out of state. If you keep a boat on a trailer, the 4 p.m. cutoff falls close to the time the resort's noon cruise gets back. Morning launches are the ones that leave you room.
The East Shore in late fall has low sun over the water, snow starting on the ridgelines and a quiet dock at noon, and our cinematic team spends a lot of time out there because of it.
